Howland S. s. No.3 Report

The pupils of S.s. No.3, Howland were examined in reading, writing, dictation, arithmetic, geography, literature and grammar on Friday, Sept. 26th. As far as possible the examination was a written one. Highest class, jun.3d-Possible marks, 265; Rose BURNETT, 147. Jr. 2d class-Possible 260; Rose BRANDOW, 147; Martha ABBEY, 98; Theodore FERGUSON, 83; Matilda RICHARDS, 82; Sarah ROLLEY, 73. It will be noticed that the foregoing is a low percentage of possible marks. It must, however, be borne in mind that proficiency can only be obtained by regular attendance. So far the attendance has not been regular. Let us hope for better in the future. To parents: We are laboring hard and earnestly for the comfort and advancement of your children. Would you favor us with a visit occasionally? Also, bring your friends. You will see something new and interesting. Perhaps there are defects in our system of teaching; if so, help us to remedy them.
